Synagogue security is run by a team of enthusiastic volunteers who take turns to be on duty every Shabbat and the festivals and also for a wide range of social events that take place at the synagogue throughout the year. We liaise regularly with the Community Security Trust and with Greater Manchester Police to keep abreast of issues that affect Manchester’s Jewish community in general and Menorah in particular.
Information for visitors
If you are visiting Menorah, please contact the office, who will include your name on the list of expected visitors. The security team will then know that you are invited.
If you are a Menorah member and are inviting non-members as guests (perhaps for a Simcha), please give their names to the office, who will again include them on the list for the security team. Similarly if you are organising a social event, please give the names of all attendees to the office, who will forward them to the security team.
If you are a Member or Friend of Menorah, please consider joining the security team. We can always use more volunteers, and it means that each person will be on duty less often. Women are equally welcome; we already have several on the team and they will be delighted if more join them. If you would like to know more about what security duty entails, please contact the Security Director, whose contact details are in every issue of Shofar, Menorah’s bi-monthly magazine. Or by email to
