Kol Nidrei Appeal 5781

Dear Menorah Friends

One of our proudest Menorah traditions is the generosity of our members in response to our annual Kol Nidrei appeal. Throughout the year, the impact of our Kol Nidrei giving makes a direct, real and positive difference in the lives of children and adults in our local Jewish community, in wider society and in Israel. Your donations strengthen society and uphold institutions that embody our values of justice, peace, health, protection of the most vulnerable in society, and fairness.

This year, with the impact of Covid-19, the need is even greater; the calls for our donations have intensified. Rather than feel overwhelmed, however, tradition reminds us of what Rabbi Tarfon said: ‘It is not your duty to finish the work, but neither are you at liberty to neglect it’ (Pirkei Avot 2:14).

As Jews we know the core value of Tzedakah is our duty and an indelible part of our identity. I urge you to give as generously as you can.

As the three central facets of the yamim noraim tell us: ‘Teshuvah, Tefillah, and Tzedakah, (Penitence, prayer, and righteous acts/charity) avert the severe decree’.

Thank you for your generosity and may we all be inscribed in the Book of Life.
