SERVICE TIMES

Our services are streamed from 6.30 pm every Friday evening, from 10.30 am every Shabbat morning and on the mornings of major festivals.  We also stream from 7.15 pm on Kol Nidrei and from 6.30 pm on Erev Rosh Hashanah, Erev Sukkot and Erev Simchat Torah. For members and friends of the community we also have a Zoom feed. If you require the link please contact the office.

EXPERIENCING A SERVICE

We welcome you to join our services in person at our building in Sharston as a visitor. However for security reasons we ask you to contact us first so that we can be sure that your name is on our guest list and that we can look out for you to welcome you in person.  Please click on the button below to let us know you will be joining us.

You may be more comfortable when with us to know that we ask Jewish adult males to wear tallit and a kippah but you can of course borrow one from  us – we have plenty at the door for visitors. For non- Jewish males we invite you to show respect for our traditions by covering your head – any hat or a borrowed kippah from us will be fine. We are completely egalitarian and women are welcome to also wear tallit and kippah in our services. They are not required to cover their heads but are of course welcome to do so. There is no set dress code for visitors but you will probably be most comfortable in smart or smart casual clothes. A warden will welcome you and provide you with a prayerbook for the service. If you feel unsure about being in a Jewish service please simply tell us in advance or speak to a warden on the door and we will ensure that someone sits with you and helps you to follow the service.

The service is mostly in Hebrew with some English but the prayerbooks have both transliterations and translations for non- Hebrew speakers and the Rabbi will make it clear what page we are on. In some services but not all we have a choir. The services last about one and a half hours.

You will be welcome to join us a the kiddush after the service – a short blessing over food and wine and then a light buffet (or maybe a more substantial one if you happen to join us on a special occasion!) and a chance to meet our members and have a friendly chat.

We look forward to meeting you!

Friday nights at home

Menorah has a tradition of running monthly Friday night services, together with a Chauvurah (shared) supper, in congregants’ homes. These are a great opportunity to get together with different members of the shul in a warm and informal atmosphere.

These services usually take place on the last Friday of every month at 6:30pm. Details will always be in the Calendar.

We are always looking for volunteers to host, so don’t hesitate to get in touch at fridaynightsathome@menorah.org.uk

Sadly at the present time the pandemic means these  services are not running. We do Zoom our Friday night services. If you require the link please contact the office.

Yachdav Supper

Yachdav is Hebrew for ‘together’. Once a month we hold an Erev Shabbat service and bring and share Chavurah community supper in our Shul building. Our food is fish or vegetarian only.  Details of the dates of these events will be in the calendar.
